What is Print Design?
Print Design is a topic to create the art for a printable surfaces and design various printing sets for a combined pieces. These designs range from the traditional cards, posters, T-shirts, magazines, large banners to wallpapers and many other printable materials.
Cards, Posters & Pamphlets
When creating cards, posters or pamphlets the first step is to take measurements and if possible study surfaces to find the best solution for the print. Also smart way to approach printing multiple things once is to create first few sample cases where you can inspect the final result without actually ordering large quantity and then noticing a crucial mistake in the print.
Color Profiles
Color profiles adjusts how all the colors are printed into the print surface and there are various profiles to target the right colors. Traditionally images with CMYK color profiles were used for printing, but today printing image with RGB color profiles is also possible to some surfaces. However there are still things you need to keep in mind when converting between color profiles and in best cases knowing the final format can provide valuable information when starting to creating the file. Example color blue is known from losing tone when shifting from RGB to a CMYK image.
Converting Between Rasterized & Vector Art
Many images and pictures are stored into hard drives as a rasterized format, this means that the resolution of the image is static and cannot be converted into larger format with just a simple scale. Vector art on the other hand can be scaled into any size and can provide multiple printing options quickly, also vector can be converted into rasterized image with a simple click. Converting a rasterized image to a vector file is something that should be inspected case by case basis.
